2016 Chevrolet Malibu Is Lighter, Safer, and Sleeker

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is completely restyled. Not only will it have a more contemporary exterior, but it will also deliver better performance.

How is this so? In the performance department, the midsize sedan has been given an all-new hybrid powertrain, which utilizes the same technology from the Chevrolet Volt. This will give it an estimated 48 mpg in the city, which is unprecedented for its segment.

To amplify performance a step further, the sedan is also now 300 pounds lighter. It will also have more interior space thanks to the wheelbase being stretched by almost four inches.

Finally, the greatest contributor to its enhanced performance is the addition of the all-new Ecotec 1.5L Turbo engine. This is a small-displacement gas engine that is gaining a lot of popularity thanks to its improved power density. It also uses stop/start technology, first introduced for the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. This enhances the efficiency of stop-and-go driving. Active grille shutters are also included to cut down on aerodynamic drag.

In terms of design, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu has modeled its design cues after the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. Some of the notable changes include three body-side creases, a redesigned dual-port grille, and slimmer headlamps. Some of the premier trims will also come with LED daytime running lamps.

More importantly, the Chevrolet Malibu is safer than ever thanks to a body structure made from high-strength steel. This allows for a lighter body weight, all while retaining similar results in crash tests.
