2016 Chevrolet Malibu Gets Five-Star Rating from IIHS

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu just earned a huge feather in its cap: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the midsize sedan as its Top Safety Pick+ award recipient.

Winning the award was in large part thanks to the inclusion of automatic braking and a front-crash prevention system. Both features, though, are optional add-ons. The Chevrolet Malibu, however, does have a few safety technologies that come as standard, including 10 airbags, traction control, stability control, and antilock brakes. For LS, LT, and hybrid models, a rearview camera is thrown in as well.

In addition, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu earned a perfect five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for both front and side crash tests. It also received five stars in overall safety ratings.

Tests also demonstrated that the vehicle was able to adequately avoid a collision when traveling at a speed of 12 mph. In a second test, it was able to avoid a crash by quickly reducing speeds to 24 mph while traveling 25 mph.

The after-report indicated that the crash dummy did not sustain any significant injuries.

Stellar safety ratings are not the only thing the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is making headlines for. Edmunds also listed the sedan as among the best June lease deals. This is something to consider if you normally prefer to lease rather than own the car.
